The Motorola Atrix is the first dual core smartphone from Motorola and was the first dual core phone to see release in the United States. Although it was beaten for this title in the UK by the LG Optimus 2X the Atrix has a number of other tricks up its sleeves to single it out as a far superior device. While the US version came with 4G support the UK Atrix will be restricted to 3G for data connections as there are currently no UK 4G networks for the Atrix to enjoy.

Even though this is so the Atrix comes with a fantastic range of connectivity options on offer. The Atrix comes with fast HSPA (3G) connections as well as DLNA enabled Wi-Fi with support for use as a Wi-Fi hotspot. These connectivity options make the Atrix a great phone for things like web browsing, streaming video from YouTube as well as accessing your social network accounts on services like Facebook and Twitter, which are both excellently supported through the excellent Motoblur interface in use.

The Atrix runs on Android Froyo and is powered by a dual core 1GHz processor and 1GB RAM that make it one of the fastest smartphones on the market. The immense processing power on board the Atrix led Motorola to wonder whether this would be enough to power a conventional computer, and so they decided to put this theory to the test. The optional laptop docking port accessory is a lifeless shell on its own and requires the insertion of the Atrix to bring it to life. Once inserted into this docking port, the Atrix will activate the webtop operating system on the laptop device allowing you to enjoy a full multitasking windowed operating system and all the benefits that that entails.

The Atrix also comes with support for an optional multimedia hub docking port, which likewise must be activated by inserting the smartphone. Once it is firmly in place you will be greeted by an interactive menu on your home television allowing you to browse through your music, video and photo content contained on the phones 16GB internal memory (with an additional 32GB available through microSD).

The Atrix also provides some other means of connecting your phone content to a home TV including a standard HDMI port as well as the DLNA Wi-Fi connection already mentioned. And the Atrix certainly comes with plenty of entertainment features for you to make good use of these connectivity options, including online video from YouTube and Flash enabled content, offline music and video and plenty of games and apps from Android Market.

The Atrix provides the excellent entertainment and messaging options you would expect from any decent high end Android smartphone as well as being one of the first dual core smartphones on offer. What really marks the Atrix out as a particularly interesting smartphone is with its additional docking ports and wealth of connectivity options that make it an ideal device for all lovers of portable media.
