The Motorola Droid was Motorola's first touchscreen handset and the phone that helped to revive the company's fortunes after it took a bit of a tumble with the touchscreen revolution. The Android smartphone became immensely popular for its unique physical design and its excellent slide-out QWERTY keyboard that made it an excellent phone for all forms of messaging.
Motorola has since released some successors to this very popular phone and the latest is the upcoming Motorola Milestone 3 which is due for release in September according to some sources. Motorola has not yet completely confirmed all of the details although many of the features of this latest droid are already known.
The Milestone 3 will still come with an excellent QWERTY keyboard just like its predecessors, although this keyboard has had a makeover with a new 5 row design that makes it easier to type. This is great news considering the many messaging options that are on offer with the Milestone 3 including email, instant messaging and social networking support. The new phone should also come with greatly improved 3G and Wi-Fi, and include DLNA support for additional connectivity.
Some reports suggest that the new Milestone will come with support for the webtop docking ports of the Motorola Atrix, which will allow you to transform this latest droid into a laptop and a media hub. Interestingly, this could signify that the new Milestone will borrow some other excellent features of the Atrix such as the biometric fingerprint scanner.
The new phone will be dual core with a possibility of a 1.2GHz dual core CPU. It should also come with 1GB RAM making it the fastest Milestone yet and with hardware graphics acceleration should be able to easily handle the many fantastic games and apps on offer from Android Market.
The new phone will have an updated version of Google Android on board compared to earlier versions of the phone and while this is currently speculated to be Gingerbread there is a possibility of Android Ice Cream Sandwich being put to good use. Either way this will come with Motorola's Motoblur interface that offers some pretty fantastic social networking support for social networks like Facebook.
One of the most obvious differences with the new Milestone is that is has a much larger 4.3" capacitive screen, complete with multitouch and Gorilla Glass. It will also feature a very high res qHD display and should be the most visually impressive Milestone phone yet put on sale. There is also a 5 megapixel camera that includes LED flash and 720p video recording with this content being uploadable to services like Facebook and YouTube.
The Milestone 3 will easily be the best Milestone yet and will automatically have a lot of appeal with fans of the popular phone series. While keeping hold of its QWERTY appeal it now features an even better keyboard for typing and the dual core and qHD additions will make this an excellent Android phone to look out for.
